Huawei has started a staged rollout of the first software update for the Mate 80 series, which includes the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. These models ship with HarmonyOS 6 out of the box, and the new package delivers additional features, improvements and optimizations on top of the version already included at launch.
Camera and imaging upgrades
A key focus of the update is the camera experience. The changelog highlights upgrades to video recording and optimizations for image stabilization aimed at improving dynamic photography. The update also includes a color camera improvement that enhances shooting with the telephoto and wide-angle lenses.
Gallery and cloud image features
Gallery receives several notable additions. The cloud image library gains a function to delete images only from the local device, allowing users to free local storage while retaining originals in the cloud for later viewing and download (Library > View Larger Images > Delete > Delete Only from This Device). Home screen cards in Gallery support dynamic effects so selected memories can rotate on the home screen, and the “Custom Album Photos” card type now allows selecting multiple images for playback via long-press > Edit > Select Images. The Gallery also adds support for transferring images, videos, files and contacts with iOS, iPadOS and macOS devices, using the “HarmonyOS Galaxy Interconnect” application on the other device.
